Annotations on the etiology and treatment of tibia vara.

چکیده
Tibia vara was first reported by Erlacher (1922) and later fully described by Blount (1937), after whom the disorder is usually named. Only about 150 cases in all have been reported in the literature. The disease is therefore relatively uncommon and it seems to have a geographic distribution. occurring chiefly in and around the Caribbean. The condition consists essentially in the development in a child of progressive varus and medial torsion of the tibia. Blount described two principal groups of patients: the infantile variety in which the deformity becomes manifest in the first three years of life, and the adolescent variety in which it first becomes obvious at about the age of eight years. The infantile variety is the more common, the more severe and the more certainly progressive form of the disorder. Usually both legs are affected, but the condition may be unilateral.

Anatomical Alignment of Lower Extremity in Subjects With Genu Valgum and Genu Varum Deformities
Purpose: Changes in lower extremity alignment in individuals with abnormality of this segments are unclear. The present study aimed to compare lower extremity alignment in subjects with genu valgum and genu varum deformities and healthy subjects in order to understand the lower extremity alignment changes in this group. Methods: This was a causal-comparative study. The sample comprised 120 m...
متن کاملOrthosis Effects on the Gait of a Child with Infantile Tibia Vara
Infantile tibia vara (ITV) is an acquired form of tibial deformity associated with tibial varus and internal torsion. As there is currently insufficient data available on the effects of orthotics on gait parameters, this study aimed to document the influence of orthosis on walking. A male infant with bilateral tibia vara used orthoses for five months. Gait evaluations were performed pre- and po...
متن کاملObservations on the Etiology of Tibia Vara
Varus deformity at the upper end of the tibia was reported by Erlacher (1922) and LUlsdorf (1931), who considered it to be a type of osteochondritis. Blount (1937) presented a personal series of thirt en cases and reviewed fifteen cases from the literature. He called the condition tibia vara and suggested that the term osteochondrosis was more appropriate than osteochondritis. Further reports o...
متن کاملLateralization of Tibial Plateau Reference Point Improves Accuracy of Tibial Resection in Total Knee Arthroplasty in Patients with Proximal Tibia Vara
Background The tibial cut referenced to the center of the intercondylar eminence often leads to varus malalignment in the presence of preexisting proximal tibia vara. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of lateralization of the lateral tibial plateau reference point (based on the amount of proximal tibia vara) on the postoperative coronal plane alignment. Methods In this p...
متن کاملEvaluation of treatment of late-onset tibia vara using gradual angulation translation high tibial osteotomy.
Late-onset tibia vara or Blount's disease is the most common cause of pathologic genu varum in children and adolescents. Treatment remains controversial. Many studies in the past have shown that an osteotomy with acute correction is the most appropriate treatment. More recently however, there has been a growing interest, especially in severe cases, in using gradual correction with the Ilizarov ...
